This paper is an attempt to survey in summary fashion the idea of what meditation is, its purposes, it kinds and how it works in Buddhist tradition. The paper would also be looking briefly at the tafakkur and dhikr concept in the Islamic tradition in order to show that both tradition have their own spiritual method of concentration as the way to attain the higher spiritual life.
